According to the Wall Street Journal, former Lending Club CEO Renaud Laplanche has started a new online lender called Credify; the company has setup offices in the financial district of San Francisco and was incorporated less than a month after leaving Lending Club; former Lending Club executives Jeff Bogan and Adelina Grozdanova have also joined the new company; it plans to make its first loans in 2017. Prosper released its October 2016 performance report with the month's estimated return of 7.12% just below the estimate of 7.17% for the third quarter; in October, vintage prepayment rates continued to trend higher; delinquencies and loss patterns since 2013 are below levels in 2012; cumulative gross charge-offs appear to be a factor trending higher; average FICO of the portfolio was 714.1 in October. LiftForward has obtained a $100 million credit facility through funding from Monroe Capital; LiftForward is a New York City-based marketplace lender for manufacturers, distributors and retailers; the firm offers credit of up to $1 million per transaction; in addition to credit products the firm also offers its customers a platform to sell their products as a hardware as a service subscription. In October, CFPB Director Richard Cordray warned banks not to limit access to financial data by third parties working on behalf of the customer; now the bureau he leads is opening an inquiry into a data sharing dispute between banks and fintech companies; the inquiry is focused on consumer choice, security and control; the CFPB believes this will help banks and fintech companies better understand what the customer needs, how to accurately give the customer choice and security, and who ultimately owns the customer's data. The New York City-based company raised their Series A funding from WisdomTree Investments, Inc., who sees this opportunity as a strategic investment; the deal will set up WisdomTree's asset allocation models to be made available through AdvisorEngine's open architecture platform and WisdomTree will actively introduce the new platform to its distribution network; AdvisorEngine intends to use the funds for the continued development and expansion of its wealth management platform. The Department of Justice's case against Quicken Loans will be heard in Detroit; in an ongoing case filed in April 2015, the Department of Justice says Quicken Loans used faulty underwriting processes to certify Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loans while disregarding FHA rules; Quicken is a direct endorsement lender for the FHA and the loans in the court case were originated from September 2007 through December 2011. DealStruck, an online lender for small and medium-sized businesses, has stopped originating loans; the industry environment and slowdown in investor capital has affected the company; the firm's CEO Ethan Senturia said, "Although we are not currently originating new loans, we are continuing to provide our clients with the high-level of service they have come to expect from us."; he also noted, "we’ll be looking for strategic options to allow us to continue delivering on our mission to provide unique, appropriate and affordable financing to small businesses nationwide." Marketplace lender, PeerStreet, has raised $15 million in a funding round led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz; PeerStreet offers secured real estate loans through its lending platform; the minimum investment is $1,000; investors on the platform include high net worth individuals, family offices and institutions; Andreessen Horowitz's Rampell noted the competitive advantages of PeerStreet compared to competitors included their fast growth and distribution model; he stated, "Most companies that are lending to consumers spend all the money in customer acquisition and it is very hard to get a profit." Trust Stamp, who focuses their business on identity authentication that leverages artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies, just raised a new round of funding from Second Century Ventures; the amount of the funding has yet to be disclosed; Trust Stamp uses artificial intelligence software to comb through public records and social media data to provide ID verification to real estate professionals who meet new clients; the new funding will help them to continue building out their technology and integrate blockchain into their processes.
