Mortgage Applications and Mobile Devices

Bank of America has optimized auto loan applications for mobile apps and is looking to expand to mortgages with a similar offering; the expansion follows a market trend toward increased demand for digital mortgage offerings; Bank of America plans to launch its mobile mortgage application in 2017 as it seeks to broaden its service availability to a full range of service channels; the mobile offering will expand on the firm's current online mortgage experience which provides for electronic applications and documentation with the benefit of automating and verifying customer information; within the industry, JPMorgan is also developing a mobile mortgage offering through its partnership with Roostify and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has set a precedent for mobile mortgage service with the launch of its Hello Home product. Forbes Talks with Matt Humphrey at LendIt USA about LendingHome’s New Consumer Loans

LendingHome was founded in 2013 and is the second startup business founded by Matt Humphrey; the firm announced its new consumer loan mortgage product at LendIt USA 2017; since its initial launch, the business has originated over $1 billion in mortgage loans with a focus specifically on fix and flip property owners; the new product will expand the capabilities of the firm's technology by offering consumer mortgage loans to first time homebuyers; the product expansion is a natural extension of the business and talking with Forbes, Humphrey says it has been a part of the firm's plan since founding the company.  Source

Legislators Reintroduce Bill for GSE Credit Scoring

Legislators have reintroduced a bill that would enable alternative credit scoring to be used by Fannie and Freddie for evaluation of mortgage loans; these government sponsored enterprises currently use a FICO credit scoring model which legislators believe is outdated; legislators have now proposed the Credit Score Competition Act which would allow for use of alternative credit scoring models that also take into consideration a broader range of factors.  Source

Challenger Bank Revolut Adding New Mortgage Offering

Revolut has partnered with Trussle to offer mortgage loan solutions for its clients; the partnership is the most recent in a series of partnerships for the digital only bank, adding to lending solutions from lenders Lending Works and Bricklane; Trussle will provide a multi-lender service to Revolut customers through technology that can recommend mortgage loans for first time borrowers and suggest alternatives for current borrowers. Charts: Non-Bank Lenders Taking over Mortgage Originations

Many people don't realize the role that non-bank lenders play in the mortgage business; the below bar chart breaks down the top originators in Q2 2016; while traditional banks still are represented in the top 10 and Wells Fargo still leads by a wide margin, non-banks represented 63% of the total number of originations in the top 10; non-banks lead origination of mortgages which are insured by the Federal Housing Administration and the Veterans Administration; the graph shows the trend we have seen since 2009 of non-bank lenders increasing their share of the market; at LendIt we will feature a panel on the shifting mortgage origination landscape with companies such as Better Mortgage and loanDepot.  Source
