Prioritizing female hires for fintech gender parity

Donna Parisi is head of finance and fintech at Shearman & Sterling; Michelle Tran is founder of NYC FinTech Women; the two recently discussed the persistent gender disparity within fintech with Finextra Research; both Parisi and Tran believe the scarcity of women inhibits commercial success within fintech; LendIt’s recent survey found only 37% of fintech workers are women and women represent just 19% of the C-Suite; part of the challenge is that many leaders lean on networks to find new employees; similar to technology, their networks tend to be male which means females are less aware of opportunities; there is also the importance of instilling a strong workplace culture at fintech firms which supports women; this article delves further into the current state of women in fintech and some of the ways that companies can push for gender parity.
