Commercial real estate marketplace lending platform Money 360 originated loans of $35.6 million in December; the bridge loans ranged from $2.5 million to $12.5 million with durations between one and two years; according to Founder and CEO Evan Gentry, the firm expects momentum to continue in 2017 with performance from the platform a factor of increased demand from borrowers and investors for commercial real estate financing. UK online lender Funding Circle has announced it will be slowing its property lending with plans to fully end the product by mid 2018; the firm is primarily focused on SME lending and says the refocused strategy will help it to increase SME lending and shift its resources for international expansion; property loans have previously only been available to UK borrowers and the product has accounted for approximately 5% of the company's revenue. Leading marketplace lending platform, Prosper, has launched Credit Card Optimizer; the Credit Card Optimizer is an enhancement to the firm’s Prosper Daily app which was introduced in March 2016 as an aggregator for financial accounts; the Credit Card Optimizer will provide users with their credit card balances and payment notifications; also seeks to provide advice on credit card usage and includes features for managing credit cards by interest bearing balances. The UK's MarketInvoice, a working capital lender for businesses, has been gaining significant market traction and is reporting ambitious plans for future business growth; it is estimating total lending of 2 billion British pounds ($2.5 billion) by the end of the year and is planning to offer its service to incumbent banks; the firm has also appointed Zopa's Giles Andrews as its chairman and hired Shaun Alexander as head of risk to improve its risk reporting, integrate more artificial intelligence programming and facilitate greater deal communication with large traditional banks. Funding Circle reported originations of 306 million British pounds ($375.12 million) in the fourth quarter of 2016; originations accounted for 36% of lending from the Peer-to-Peer Finance Association's (P2PFA) member firms; the platform's lending is close to surpassing Zopa, the market leader in the UK; at the end of 2016 Funding Circle had originated a total of 1.8 billion British pounds ($2.21 billion) while Zopa has originated 1.9 billion British pounds ($2.33 billion); loan volume growth is expected to continue for Funding Circle in 2017 after announcing in January a 40 million British pound ($49.04 million) investment commitment from the British Business Bank and a 100 million British pound ($122.59 million) equity investment; all of the data released by the P2PFA is available on their website. Renaud Laplanche launched his new online lending firm at the beginning of April; Upgrade raised $60 million for its launch and is reportedly valued at $168 million; the company will compete directly with many unsecured consumer lenders offering loans from $2,000 to $50,000; a key part of the offering will be a mobile app to help borrowers manage their finances which has yet to be released. Fang Fan has reportedly disappeared leaving investors unable to withdraw their funds from eight P2P lending platforms managed by Fan and controlled by Beijing Qiyuan Fortune Network Technology Co. in China; the platforms' investors are now unable to withdraw over 1 billion yuan ($145 million) in funds; platforms operated by Fang Fan included cmtouzi.com, naipinglicai.com, zaodianlicai.com, wanerjialicai.com, qianguan360.com, lexinglicai.com, xjinfu.com and huoniu360.com; cmtouzi.com continues to operate with a plan to provide investment withdrawals for investors.
