OCC Seeks Public Input on Digital Banking and Cryptocurrency Use

Yesterday, the OCC said it was reviewing its regulations around digital banking activities that includes looking at cryptocurrency and blockchain tools; Acting Comptroller, Brian Brooks came to the OCC from Coinbase and he has been on the board of Avant so he knows the fintech space better than most regulators; the OCC will seek public input on a number of topics including, “What new payments technologies and processes should the OCC be aware of and what are the potential implications of these technologies and processes for the banking industry?” and “How are new payments technologies and processes facilitated or hindered by existing regulatory frameworks?”; Public comment is open until August 3.
