Speaking at Money2020, Paulette Rowe, Facebook’s global head of payment and financial services partnerships stated, “We don’t believe we are a payments company—we don’t believe we have the skills to be a payments company…What we do want to do is to partner.”; Rowe who previously was a managing director at Barclaycard is speaking with payments processors, banks and financial institutions in order to streamline payments within Facebook’s ecosystem; on top of those ambitions are their plans to launch their own digital coin; Rowe noted that they have nothing to announce on that front, but it has been widely reported that they are exploring options on how they might use blockchain technology.
