Metro Bank Falls Victim to Fake News

Metro Bank’s Harrow branch in London became the victim of a fake news story that caused customers to demand their savings and valuables from safety deposit boxes; a rumor was spread on WhatsApp saying the bank might be shut down or go bankrupt; WhatsApp messages are private and encrypted making it impossible to read messages or counter fake news; the bank made statements explaining the news was completely false and the bank was not going anywhere.
