While it’s no surprise that many fintech companies were exploring the OCC fintech charter it is interesting that both Google and PayPal visited with officials at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; PayPal and Google along with other fintech companies have since taken a step back from exploring further citing potential harm to relationships with state regulators as well as the current legal issues on whether the OCC has the authority to create the charter; the OCC has reportedly held hundreds of meetings with dozens of technology and fintech companies.
