Fractional Share Trading Fast Becoming a Trend in Wealth Management

The wealth management industry has gone through a host of changes in recent years and now fractional share trading has digital wealth firms thinking about adding the feature to their product set; trading pieces of stocks allows for investors to gain access to large companies like Amazon without forking over thousands; while the practice has existed for many years through a different name the big difference today is the trading is happening in real-time; “When the client goes in and says, ‘I want to buy some Apple,’ they’re clicking the dollar button instead of shares when they place the trade. They’re choosing to transact in that way,” Scott Ignall, the Head of Retail brokerage at Fidelity, told Business Insider; the market can in part thank fintech firms for the push as the likes of Robinhood, M1, Stash, SoFi and Square have all included the offering to their customers; right now the revenue opportunities are small but with enough volume there could be real opportunity down the line.
