The new digital assistant is launching inside the Bank of America mobile app next year and will be named Erica; the bank is looking for the tool to help customers better understand their spending habits and offers different ways to stay financially fit; Erica will use artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to help customers make payments, check balances, save money and pay down debt. MasterCard is launching customizable bots for merchants and banks; they have partnered with Kasisto, the company that created KAI Banking, a conversational AI platform; consumers will be able to manage their money inside Facebook Messenger, asking questions about their accounts, purchase history, spending levels, etc.; transactions will also be able to take place on Messenger with MasterCard’s Masterpass, a digital payment service. Ant Financial announced at Money 20/20 a partnership with payment processor First Data and hardware provider Verifone; new move will expand scope of their wallet product, AliPay, into North America and Europe for wealthy Chinese travelers; AliPay has 450 million active users, totaling nearly 70% of the third party payment market in China. The big data technology provider raised the round from MissionOG with follow on investment from Notion Capital and Singtel Innov8; they intend to use the new funds to grow their technology and client services teams also expanding partnerships to keep up with demand from the US and Asia; DemystData provides financial institutions with a big data tech platform to make improved risk and compliance decisions. In a speech at the Money 20/20 conference in Las Vegas, the head of the CFPB said he was troubled by banks who would shut off access to third-party data providers and believes consumers should have access to their data; though the agency declined to comment on the possibility of a new rule, they did make it clear that consumers should be the ones who decide when and who should have access to their data; this puts banks in a tough position as they work to comply with the current regulations and burgeoning fintech market that has given consumers a variety of technology options to use their personal data. Lendingcalc.com and PUFIN have filed for a patent on a system that would use blockchain technology to give loans unique indentifiers, like CUSIPs; the system could help with greater market transparency; Lendingcalc.com and PUFIN have begun plans for implementing their system as an open source option for the industry; other firms have introduced this concept with a fee-based system however Lendingcalc.com and PUFIN are marketing their system as free with no fees. Payments International is hosting the "FinTech and Future of Payments Forum" in London from November 15th to 18th; the agenda on Nov.18 includes their own version of "Shark Tank"-like business pitch competitions; finalists and judges have been announced in the areas of Identity (including blockchain), financial inclusion/personal financial management; the Internet of Things, and cross-border payments. Online auto insurance company, EverQuote, has raised $23 million in Series B funding; the funding is part of a pre-IPO plan to provide liquidity to its founders and employees; the firm will also use the funding to hire 120 employees focused on sales and data; plans also include directly selling insurance on the platform with the use of proprietary data from the firm's app, EverDrive. Chinese credit card management firm, 51 Credit, has raised $84 million in Series C+ funding from Harvest Capital and Yintai Group, this is soon after they secured $310 million from Series C funding; the fundraising will help the company establish its own investment fund targeting fintech companies; in total the firm has raised $444 million in equity capital; according to Sun Haitao, 51 Credit CEO, the fund will be launched within a year, and will focus on asset management, data and credit services. Republic Bank & Trust Co. launched a digital-only bank branded as MemoryBank, this would stand alone from Republic and would aim to offer simplified products; this digital bank is courting those in Generation X, as opposed to the millennial generation; according to Andrew Varga, Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer of Republic Bank & Trust Co., the new digital bank will allow for the regional bank to have a national footprint.
