Credit Suisse and Brokerage Provider Settling Trades on Distributed Ledger

Credit Suisse and Instinet have recently started to settle US stock trades on a distributed ledger from Paxos Trust; this is a first application of a distributed ledger being leveraged for equities trades; Emmanuel Aidoo is head of distributed ledger strategy at Credit Suisse and shares just how big of a milestone the news is: “For the last 40-something years, you’ve had a single process of settling trades in the United States…from a symbolic perspective, this is huge.” Many people believed that US equities would be one of the last places for a distributed ledger to be used due to the market already being efficient; Penny Crosman from American Banker digs deeper into the details of the technology and the benefits for this application of blockchain technology.
