Barclays Opts For Different Fintech Strategy

We’ve seen many banks who have launched their own fintech offerings; NatWest with Mettle and Bo is one example and in the US the most notable example is Goldman Sachs’ Marcus; a Barclays spokesperson told AltFi that instead of launching their own offering, they are instead focused on “forming strategic long-term partnerships with fintech companies whose ideas can drive sustainable change.” Barclays has fintech-focused initiatives like Rise, Eagle Labs and Barclays ventures where they hope to bring change to financial services; for now though it seems like Barclays is taking a support role with no plans to make fintech acquisitions.
