American Banker’s Digital Banker of the Year: Patrick Sells of Quontic

Patrick Sells is the Chief Innovation Officer of Quontic Bank, a community bank based in New York; he is American Banker’s Digital Banker of the Year as he is recognized for creating the road map for turning Quontic into a thriving digital innovator with a can-do attitude when it comes to trying new technology; the hardest part of implementing new technology, according to Sells, was the entrenched thinking within the bank; he overcame the resistance slowly by allowing “a policy of failure” within the bank; Sells told American Banker, “I think one of the things that community banks are doing poorly is we’re letting fintechs create a lot innovation for us…banks can absolutely be innovative. There’s no reason what you see a fintech doing you couldn’t do yourself.” American Banker
